I have done plenty of shitty jobs on minis and no longer swear at any of them. But today i tried to install 1/4 vent window rubbers in my deluxe. I have followed the instructions from 'How To' . What a f//--@&$ job this is and i have got nowhere all afternoon so it is now time for a beer. Issigonis please come back and install for me. |

I didn't find it too bad, i remember going through few different screw drivers, kitchen knives, etc untill i found the best thing to use. I think its just a matter of figuring out the best way to hold it so that bit that are "half in" stay in place while you get to the other side. I did it sitting on the floor cross legged, so i could keep one side jammed between my leg and elbow while i worked on another. |

My late father, Don Boye, had a fair bit to do with the actual quarter vent design and Chis Rogers, who you'll see in the above link was responsible for the overall design. They are/were very nice blokes and wouldn't have intentionally wanted us all to suffer. I've never replaced the vent seals but I bet the real problem is the quality of today's rubber. The original stuff was probably softer and easier to work with and probably a better fit. |

Hey Peter, It is never to late to go to sliding window door's  and you can fit your beer and ice in the door pockets

I did it ONCE! It was such a tormenting ordeal the other rubber seal is waiting for me to get the motivation to endure it again... |

Old flapper pushin the 850 trail again. Anything for more beer. I think you're right phill, it could be all in the rubber quality. Now working on getting a little bit in the groove, then tying it in with twine, move on to the next bit, twine again and so it goes. I have now got 2 inches done and tied in. In the meantime have painted 2 subframes, installed 2 door handles, and finished prepping the body ready for painting. Now that is progress for the day. I still may end up going to Canberra David. |

I attempted to change these seals once - got half way through then decided it would be easier to just not bother and go for custom window glass rover style....so I did!

5 years ago I took both my quarter windows to a friend who had recently done his. With his help, the first one took 20 mins and the 2nd one 10. So I want to assure you it's not that hard. However I can't remember now what the sequence was.. (hey I am getting on in years)! Comments: The window frame can pull away from the glass a bit with old age. So when you then open it, the frame tends to drag the rubber out of the channel. Both mine now stay shut for this reason. The vertical rubber supplied now has flat washers bonded into it instead of the metal strip the originals had. A bit cheap IMO. |

Ok I just did my right side and it wasn't so bad. Probably about 20 minutes to get the rubber in once I got going. What I did was drill out the rivets top and bottom and removed the quarter vent frame from the door window channel. This way I was able to slide the bottom section of rubber on using some detergent. You can do this from the corner section (bottom pivot) where its an open end. I think it may also be easier to fit the ends as they are finished. You don't cut the ends off at all. The top section is an easier fit than the bottom as the design is slightly different. For the top I fitted one side then laid the frame flat on a table fitted side down. Using a flat bladed screw driver I worked the rest of the rubber in from the bottom corner to the top. Left side should be quicker now. |
