Post subject:  what's this windscreen from?

Hi Everyone,

Currently trying to clean out the place from all the random bits that I have lying around and found this windscreen:

It seems stubbier than a normal rear windscreen for a mini (ie shorter length but wider) and possibly has more of a curve to it. Not sure how I ended up with it, but was wondering if anyone knows what it might be from?

cheers,
Richard

Don't think so.
I was a beetle mechanic for 2 years back in the 60s. Their screens are nearly flat. (And close enough to get ground to your prescription, rofl)

Looks like a rear screen from something 60s but without any dimensions it could be tricky working out if its beetle, 356 speedster, or corvette or whatever its actually from!

fair enough. I actually meant to get the dimensions and even a photo comparing it to a mini one, but ran out of time. Will do my best to get the dimensions tomorrow.

My best guess was a VW beetle, so i have no idea now!

Beetles did go to a curved screen around the 1970s...I think it looks more like a rear screen than anything else :|

I only just realised that the Doc was talking about a front screen. I only ever saw it as a rear screen.

He is old enough to remember when they had two rear screens.

It would be unusual if it didn't have some king of etched marking, like 'Triplex' or 'Made in Germany', it could be very faint.

In the middle (what I assume to be the bottom side) is a little circle of writing that says "Armourplate safety glass".

Does that help?

Not much help to me. Pilkington made armourplate in lots of different countries, including Australia. Holden used it a bit, but I don't know if any BMC cars would have used it. Most BMC cars had Triplex glass, which is apparently a subsidiary of Pilkington.
