Post subject:  rod change coupling

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has seen this rod change coupling before. Looks like the roll pins are hollow and are wired up. Will they be easier to remove to do the gearbox oil seal, and am I likely to be able to reuse the coupling and pins? Should I purchase a new coupling with quick change pins to make the job easier?

Interested to hear your thoughts.
cheers

If the pin holes in the coupling are worn, go buy a new coupling and pins.
Minikingdomonline has new AUSTRALIAN made couplings, these are cnc machined and properly hardened.

That is the standard setup - minus the lockwire. They are easy to do. I did mine a few weeks ago.
Put it into reverse to get a good angle at the pin. You only need to punch out the pin closest to the gearbox.

Have a read of this http://www.moke.com.au/in-the-garage/re ... eplacement

Cheers & thanks Doc.
I didn't realise this is standard gtogreen, thanks for the advice about putting it into reverse etc.
many thanks !

I would also recommend using 2 new seals or buy one of the anti leak kits that use an aluminium support and seal.
The pin punch needed is 7/32". I bought this kit as it has a few different sizes that fit the mini.

I've done mine but found the new roll pins a bit hard to get in with a new coupling

I suggest You check the hole in the selector rod
where the coupling joins the selector rod it is often very badly worn,
I am reasonably sure you can rotate the shaft and re drill
Both ends, However I would check this With
Dr Mini
I also recommend the fitting of the anti leak seal kit

The seal kit to get is Matt Reads.

It has the o ring in the correct spot to minimise leaks - against the shaft. The outside of the aluminium ring is a press fit into the housing.

I bought myself the anti leak kit and a quick release coupling. I got the roll pin out of the back half of the coupling but can't get the front or gearbox side roll pin out. Not sure if someone has messed this up previously, hence the wire tie down.
Limited access under the car does has not helped.
I'm wondering will I have any success cutting the coupling with a thin cutting wheel. Has anyone had to resort to that in the past to remove it?

It will only punch out whilst in reverse

Any point in using an anti leak kit on a new rod change mechanism before it starts leaking...?

It can't hurt. The more support you give the shaft the longer the seal will last.
