So i have a busted core plug, also called a welsh plug. Its located behind the alternator and is all crumbly and rusted. Any tips for replacing it? Its for an 1100 engine. Also would it be wise to replace all 4 at once? Any help on this would be appreciated

I would do the lot. If all are of the same vintage, then all will be in a similar state. They're very cheap and easy to replace, but will cause all kinds of problems when they fail.

Get brass ones if possible.
Drive a screwdriver into it in the middle then lever sideways to remove.
Clean the recess to bare metal, apply some Stag jointing compound or similar.
Use a small hammer to flatten the plug and spread it. Do not hit it beyond flat.

Thanks for the help, any ideas on what could cause the plugs to fail, other than age?

Nothing tricky, just age and corrosion. Steel welsh plugs are still out there and these must go eventually.

It would be wise to have the radiator cleaned out professionally and flush the block and heater core.
