| Post subject: | Installing front subframe and engine to car. |
I want to install the engine to the subframe and go from underneath instead of lowering the engine into the car as its only going to be a shell when I get it back from the painters. Should I put the subframe on blocks? Is there a certain height it should be at? Any info will be awesome or suggestions! Cheerrrrssss

Cheerrrrssss /quote] Fully assemble the front subframe, including the wheels (not incl the steering rack), block it level on the wheels, and lower the engine in. Install the steering rack on the body before getting the shell over the engine/subframe. We have found that that is not the best way to do it. If the steering rack is installed, then fit the subframe (fully assembled) and use a chain block (or endless chain) to carefully lower the engine in (using the proper, or proven lifting bracket on the engine). With two (or more) people you can inch the engine in and apply whatever tilt is needed with rags to protect the paintwork. Cheers |

Cheers for that, I think I'll get it to rolling stage and lower it in from above seems the easiest less stressful way of doing it |

I've rolled them in from underneath - it works fine - steering rack bolted to the body first, then roll the engine and subframe in level. You want it as low as possible so that the body doesn't have to be too high or at an angle. You need a couple of jacks under the subframe so you can adjust heights & angles like most things, use your head and it'll be fine |
