I was needing some help from you knowlegible people out there.

My mini has the standard "hole" in the rear firewall. The only problem it is open so you can see the back seat.

I believe there is a metal panel that is screwed in from the cabin to seal the hole.

I have been trying to find a part number but to not avail. I even can't find its name

In any case can anyone tell me where I can get one

I think it was fibre, not metal? I'll check in the morning.
In any case it's thin, and only curved in 1 plane. Cut a bit of 0.6-1.0mm zincseal or galvanized sheet, drill a few screw holes and it's done.

Do you think I should seal it or maybe run some sort of sound deadening matting behind the rear seat to reduce noise

I think the rear seat itself reduces noise, compared to not having one.
Cooper S had no soundproofing there, but it did have some in the boot area, and a fibre board on the bootlid itself.
Note the rear bulkhead is not properly sealed to the side panels.

I've just put back that piece in my just repainted Deluxe. I used black Fuller caulk to run a bead around the line of the original caulk before screwing it on. I also replaced the foam rubber seals which close off the ends of the rear bulkhead and parcel shelf.

I assume you had the piece that covered the hole? I am still looking to purchase an original cover if I could find a part number or its proper name have you got a photo as it would help if I go down the road of a substitute

Yes, Tom, I had the original board used to cover the hole. You should be able to see the depression in the rear bulkhead where this is supposed to be installed, and there should be four holes, each with a speednut. In my case the board was not fitted into the depression and just thrown at the rear bulkhead and installed where it landed (I put it back in the same place!). Hope the attached helps you.

It seems it is made of almost painted Masonite.
I will make something up as it appears an original one is almost impossible to find

In case it helps the part as listed in the very first Mini parts catalogue (AKD1153) is 14A4476 - Cover Plate, Seat Back Panel. Interestingly it seems to have fallen off the radar in subsequent parts catalogues, and I haven't been able to find a supersession. Will keep looking.

By searching for 14A4476 I came across an entry in the Somerford on-line catalogue. This plate is called "COVER, Rotodip hole in seat brace", and the accompanying screws and spire nuts are listed as well. Interesting. There's no other information.

Hi all

Finally was able to source an original fibre cover n great condition.

I will fit it over the weekend. I was thinking of running a bead of silicon in order to seal - any thoughts?

Susanna's was all original when I took it off, it had a bead of that tacky black stuff sealing it, like windshield mastic.
Silicone would do the same thing.

I said earlier that I used Fuller black caulk (it's actually called caulk in colours)

As dr mini mentioned the way the body is structured the boot is not sealed from the cabin elsewhere (eg up sides of c pillars) so might be a waste of time making that cover airtight.
