Post subject: | Windscreen Wipers Help |
Hi, The wiper on the passenger side needs to come off and rotated a few splines clockwise, as it comes off the windscreen on the down stroke but I cant work out how to remove the retainer?? Also the same wiper is longer in length and as a result hits on the windscreen rubber at top Is the longer arm simply the wrong item for the car or can it be adjusted... I couldn't find any kind of adjustment? cheers. |

The wiper arm should just pull up and off the splined drive. Look closely underneath and it should be clear how to do it. Either the arm or the blade is too long. Measure both against the other wiper assembly. Replacements of both are readily available. |

You might need to lever away the tang that holds the arm onto the splines. ![]() |

If you put pressure upwards on the opposite side of the tang, to counteract the arm's spring pressure, it will slide off easy. |

A friends 67 Mk1 wipers are much the same, not the being too long issue, but in as much that they override the edge of the screen when wiping or parked. we've tried repositioning the arms but it doesn't make any difference?? |

![]() Minis have 2 different length wiper blades. Early ones with original UK type Lucas motors and wiper panel have 10" blades. Later ones with the OZ type round 12AUW Lucas wiper motor and OZ wiper panel have 11" blades. The single speed OZ Lucas wiper motors originally had a 110 Deg wiping angle. This caused the RH wiper arm to hit the RHS windscreen rubber. Later 2 speed OZ Lucas wiper motors had the wipe angle reduced to 105 Deg. Don't know if single speed motors had the wipe angle reduced when the problem of hitting the rubber became apparent. Your car has the early type wipers. Seems like you have the wrong blades or arms or both. Hope this helps RonR |
