Hi,
I am a newbie,and need some advice on starting problem. I have just hadfitted new coil,leads,dissy cap and rotor button as well as new plugs, I run electronic ignition,but since all these replaced it is very hard to start, 15 minutes this morning. When it's going it runs beautifully. That said it just keeps cranking over and over for a long time before it fires,any help welcomed,

What plugs did you fit? Are they getting wet when cranking?

Is the timing the same as before as well? What timing setting did you put it to?

Thanks for the reply Mick,it was all done by a mini specialist in Melbourne,so I imagine every thing should be right,they thought it may be old fuel,but refilled it ,same problem still.

I'd be taking it back to them to have a look at. My machine gives me the irrits like this when it hasn't run for a little while, but it fixes itself. But if you went from an engine which started smartly then something has changed.

All of the above will do it, but if mixtures have been changed or some other wild card, then it will be easier to have the tuners chase the problem out in my opinion.

Thanks Mick, I will ring him again tomorrow,certainly annoying took 15 minutes to start this morning.

What carby is it running ,and is the choke connected and working ?

running inch and three quarter su,seems to be working ok.

Get someone to pull the choke out fully while you watch the Carbie. You should see the jet drop down. If this doesn't happen then it's not getting the extra fuel needed for cold start.

Winding the engine for 15 minutes to start? Not exactly what a starter motor is designed to do.

Is that a sales pitch?

Could be one of many things, but I too think you should take it back to your repairer. Maybe something they fitted is faulty or on wrong but if you start fiddling with it then they could wipe their hands of it. You might need to leave it a few days for them to test it each morning cold.

Could possibly have a crook ignition switch , try winding it over for a short time , and see if it fires when you release the key , i have seen this several times before .

once you have had it running , try just a quick flick of the key to see if it fires up .

Thanks Goodie, I think your on the right track,once it has been warmed up it only needs a quick turn of key and it fires up.

HI sorry for the old thread. just wondering how do you see it when its all sealed? or do you have to pull AirFilter off?

You can see the jet underneath the carb. When the choke is pulled the lever lowers the jet (black plastic on the left carb)
