Hi All,
What was the correct method used to hold the lower support bracket thing to the boot floor under the right hand fuel tank in an S. Mine was pop riveted in but can see where rust repairs have been made previously witch could have cased removal of the bracket. I have seen these riveted in on other cars but have heard they may have been spot welded in from factory. Anyone got photos of an original.

Ian

don't have a photo, or know which ones were rivetted, but the people who know will want to know the year and car number to tell you for sure.

I'd expect it was only the '65 cars, so anything 66 onwards should be spot welded, my '70 certainly is

While on the topic, can someone post the dimensions as to where the brackets go - the one on the floor and the one on the rear seat panel.
Thanks

I don't have anything showing the body panel drilling for the brackets so we need someone with an original body and tank removed to do some measuring. At a pinch I can remove the back seat squab and measure the position of the captive bolts used to secure the seat brace anchor bracket (23 in the diagram below) on my car (9/70 MK II S).

All the parts books I've seen show both the tank location and support bracket (21) and the reinforcement bracket (24) being secured with self-tapping screws. I assume it's the location of these parts that Ian is after?

Yes that's the one. Part 21 is the main one I need fitting dimensions for and I've never seen 24. I have also never seen them fitted with screws.

Can someone confirm?

My 68 car has it pop riveted in place.

Does anyone have a measurement for item 23 handy at all? Then we have both parts in the one thread.

The drawing shows the reinforcement plate (24) does anyone ever use one?

The reinforcing plate #24 I have never seen in Australian cars but I saw one on ebay in England last week.

I have posted the measurements for #23 before, I will try and find the photos.

Has anyone been able to get measurements for the location of #23 yet.
I am ready to start drilling :D

Hi Steve,

Give me half an hour or so and I will measure mine from inside, if that's OK?

Steve,

If you get the top right hole correct (viewed from inside, as per the photo) then the location of the other holes can be determined by the bracket itself. That top right hole and the bottom right hole are exactly in the centre of the vertical flat section of panel that has shallow channels running either side.

Let me know if you need more. Otherwise, start drilling. :)
