First time posting here. Quick intro, Currently in canberra with my 1976 Yellow Leyland mini. Pictures to come.
Curious as to how hard these fuel air mixture sensors are to instal on the A series engines. Maybe not this particular sensor but just in general. Has anyone got one/ used one in their mini?

I reckon I've seen your clubman getting around Canberra. A few weeks ago I followed you past the war memorial I believe.

The kit needs a wideband 02 sensor installed on the exhaust manifold not far from the engine.
So you need a specific size of nut welded onto the manifold to accept the sensor. When the sensor is not fitted there is you can use a small bolt of the same thread to fill the hole.

Relatively simple for an exhaust place to fit the nut, a little bit harder to get it into the right spot due to the space behind the engine, and beneath to work in.

Electrically, the Wideband Sensor uses a few amperes to warm itself up, so a dedicated fused connection is needed to supply the power to the sensor. I would suggest the gauge would use the same cable feed to power itself.

A lot of people use the Gunsons Colortune. Just screws into the sparkplug hole and shows a blue or orange flame. I think they start from about $55 off Ebay.uk

I have an Innovate MTX-L. It's a 50mm? round panel mount gauge, comes with a Bosch wideband sensor an an 18mm threaded weld-on bung.

Rather than permanently install it on the car I put it into a Jaycar metal box, and mounted the sensor on a tailpipe clamp.
I did this because IMO once the carb mixture is correctly set, the gauge is about as useful in a car as a vacuum gauge is.
Having it portable means I can try it in anybody's car. if they ask me nice.
Only downside is it doesn't work at idle, due to the tailpipe mounting.

The MTX-L kit comes with both white and black faces included.

I'm not interested in buying then selling the Innovate kit, but I could make a few boxes + leads + zorst clamps up for those who buy the gauge and want to make it portable.

[edit] I've now priced all the parts,
$100 for the whole portable kit, or $25 for just the zorst clamp bracket, with M18 threaded nut welded on.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I really appreciate it. I was kind of thinking to make it a more permanent Mod so I can monitor it in the car. My carby tuning seems to sometimes jump around a bit, that's all.

And yes, I'm sure you have seen me driving around Canberra, particularly around the War Memorial. Home isn't too far from there.
Anyway, here it is!

I was considering buying an LM-2 with tailpipe clamp etc. Doc can you explain why this dosnt work at idle? To far from the motor?

None of the tailpipe sensor ones (even LM-2) work at idle on a 4 cylinder Mini, because the air is pulsing in and out fast, there is way too much fresh air around the sensor until you open the throttle. So, it just reads max lean = 22.4.

If you want it to work properly at idle the sensor needs to be mounted way forward, preferably in the Y piece of the LCB.

[edit] My tailpipe clamp was copied from an LM-1. Same tube diameter & length.
