Post subject:  Heater

Hi everyone

So I'm contemplating whether to put a heater in the deluxe or not - I've got the wiring there for one.

Has anyone got one of these?

Or am I best trying to find an original style one and restoring it?

Cheers
James

There is someone on the forum who has installed one they bought direct from the UK but as yet they haven't posted the review on how it went. Same model just different source, can't find the thread atm though.

edit found it viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85611&hilit=heater Tweedgrey is using it, more is his build thread I believe

The Deluxe didn't come with a heater. You could order one from the dealer (the under bonnet 'MiniMatic' type) or you could fit one of the many after-market heaters that were sold by the spare parts stores.

So there is no real 'correct' original heater for a Deluxe so do what you think is best.

Nah originality really doesn't phase me, she's a bit of a bitsa as it is. More for the useability or quality of the heater, i'd rather something practical.

Whatever one you get make sure it has a blower fan in it. The Minimatic one didn't, it was effin' useless sitting in traffic.

Not a heater but, can you get a heated windscreen for a mini in Australia.
They are available in the UK

I used a heated windscreen in the UK. They are not really designed to demist, it is supposed to be for clearing snow.
They are quite strange, I didn't like it at all. When you turn it on the very fine heat element lines on the screen appear blurry and it seems to ruin your focus and it makes your eyes hurt.

They pull a fair whack of current too, when I flicked the front and rear switches at the same time it was enough to stall the motor at idle!

Just like Morris 1100 and most other BMC historians on here I was also convinced the Deluxe never came with a factory-fitted heater, until yesterday when I read the following BMC Sales Bulletin from May 1965. Of course this document doesn't prove that cars actually came off the production line with heaters but I think it's a pretty good indicator.

Wow, that is a great find!
I wonder if they kept the 25% happening for the whole model run or if they changed it during the run.
