The bolt for the strap, if you shape a point on the end of a bolt you should be able to thread it up from the underside which will dimple the floor where the hole should be. Then drill it out from the inside with out damaging the thread of the captive nut.

Captive nut is not there anymore. thus I do not know the position of hole. I was planning to drill and fit a nut sert.

will try for one tomorrow, it has some "horsehair" looking stuff between it and the base
the previous tank had no drain and when it ruptured this current one went in roadside I had to drill a hole for the drain.
scary stuff with fuel vapors everywhere.

Id be sticking some thing between the floor and bottom of the tank

Also wonder how many minis still have this stuff between the rear subframe and under boot floor of body mine has

I managed to get this heshen under lay stuff from a house i tore carpet up at last year they reckon it has asbestos in it when i done a google search about it

I checked on an old mini boot with the tank out. and drilled my boot

Image

the hole needs to be 5" (125mm) and 5/8" (16mm) from mounting plate.

if anyone else needs to do this be careful not to let the drill go through too far I put a small mark on the under beaver panel Bugger

to seal the fuel tank and not cut a hole in boot floor. I used an old bleed screw. shortened it and cut a groove to tighten in the drain hole seems to seal.

well plug didn't seal properly so I decided to cut hole to suit bleed tube.
so I thought I would put the hole position on here to assist anyone else.
2 1/2" across and 1 1/2" down from tank seat.
1" diam hole

worked oout pretty good clearance for plug

Dont forget the special grommet that seals the tank to the drain hole!!!!! It will stop water from geting in.
