hey all, I was wanting to get a new set of wheels for the deluxe. Will I be fine with 10x5 wheels? or 10x6 even? I know I'll need flares but will I scrub the guards badly? and if so does that mean I need to chop up the guards? |

Depends on a few factors, but mostly on the offset of the wheels. 10x5, i dont think people have any trouble with scrubbing. 10x6, negative offset will probably give you a bit of scrubbing. i have 10x6 -7 offset and when the car is riding low i get a bit of scrubbing. i havnt trimmed the guards though. |

6 is pretty much as much as you would want. Don't forget there really is only one tyre size available - although, there's always golf cart tyres.... 6s are not the handling option - but if they float your boat... in my view they tramline. Cheers, Ian |

10x5's should be ok on your car , depending on whether you have drums or discs , as you don't have flares . What is your location ? , there maybe someone nearby that could let you try some rims on for size to give you some ideas . |

People that fit 10 x 6 wheels tend to do it for looks. People that fit 10 x 5 wheels do it because it works better on the road. So do you want to drive it or pose in it? Me, I would keep the stock wheels and hubcaps. How many Minis to you see with hubcaps these days? |

I think you will find there will be plenty of 10 x 5 mags that you should be able to fit without fitting flares esp if still running drums. Don't spoil the car with flares. Contessas or mini lite style wheels look great on minis but it looks great with the standard wheels and hubcaps too. The colour is awesome. Not seen very often and very typical of the early 70's. There's a 70's Wheels magazine that features an article on "way out car colours" with that colour mini on the cover. I know of a original Cooper S being restored that is that colour too. |

The whole idea of a bigger wheel is for handling , it takes the ' bag ' out of the side wall of the tyre allowing the car to change directions quicker , I have original Mamba 10x6 wheels , no tram lining ( also have one with 13x7s and even that has very little tram lining ) both cars have LSDs , it's down to wheel offset , wheel alignment and the condition of the rest of the cars suspension rubbers , bushes and bearings ... |

I have 10x6 mambas on 2 of my mini, both handle exceptionally well with no guard rubbing. 13x7 would have to be the worst wheels I have ever driven a mini on. |

Sorry to dig up an old thread here.... I'm about to order some 12 x 5.5 wheels from minisport and it appears the offset is ET10. Can anyone confirm there is no issue with scrubbing with a 12 x 5.5 ET10 offset and 165 x 60 tyre? I have flares which are standard plastic arches. |
