Those of you who are very observant and have nothing better to do than check people's forum signatures may have noticed that mine now says I have one ex NSW Police 1970 MK II Cooper S, not two.

Yesterday my original car was collected by it's new owner. Fittingly the new owner is located in NSW where the car used to scare the daylights out of unsuspecting motorists who strayed over the speed limit in country areas. Better still, the new owner is the same organisation that acquired the car after it rolled off the BMC Zetland production line in late 1970. The NSW Police Force has taken custody of the car via a grant as part of their road safety initiative. It will be on display at numerous public events throughout NSW with other period Police vehicles to help get the road safety message across.

The dummy behind the wheel (my wife affectionately called him Mr. Plod) is being re-clothed and will be surrounded by the same period items that were in it when in service as an unmarked pursuit car - AWA two-way radio, Police speedometer, Grifco siren, illuminated POLICE sign, hand-held spotlight, etc. I hope you get a chance to see it somewhere.

Below, leaving the lock-up in Melbourne (my garage) for the last time and being loaded onto the NSW Police Traffic & Highway Patrol Command trailer for transporting to their base at Huntingwood. The trailer is amazing, and was custom built to safely carry Police bikes and display Police vehicles.

That must have been quite a moment... Selling your Mk2 S, but having it go back to its original owners..

but happy to see it go back to its origin
don't know how I would feel

Way cool, to have had the pleasure of owning and keeping that historical car for more to enjoy! Nice work. I hope to see it up here. Those Nevco trailers don't come cheap, but they are worth every penny.

Relax! The cops have not spent the whole road safety grant on the Cooper S......they saved some to cover the strippers and beer at their Christmas party too!

Congrats on the sale, it is a great story and means you could get the next one back on the road! :P

Thanks. That's part of the reason I was willing to part with it, but it was mainly because it will be used for a very worthwhile cause in helping reduce the carnage on our roads by promoting road safety.

Yes, all the rare police items I've been hunting and collecting (isn't that a band?) over many years have gone with the car. If they display it like I've done at the various Mini shows in Melbourne it will be just like it was when in service.

Onya Doug, great to see such a special car going to not only a good home, but a very appropriate one. The car is a credit to you.

Thinks: about a year ago I gave the cops displaying Chargers and Coons at a car show a good-natured razz for not having a Mini....

I wonder :!:  8)
