Can someone tell me how they actually work and what they replace in the suspension? Are they really worth the money spent?
How much? And does it take long to fit them? And could a person like me; not too many mechanic tools but all the necessaries; fit them?

The hi-lo's replace replace the standard steel trumpets.

You get your standard rubber cone which fits in above them in the suspension towers and the highlow has a threaded stem that you can screw down to adjust your height. They're worth installing if your current trumpets are stuffed (mine had rust holes comeing through them about the size of 50c pieces) or if you wanna lower your car.

they're pretty easy to install..but you need a rubber cone compressor to do the front ones.....i've got a step-by-step article in a magazine somewhere if you need it Will.

If your not a multi track racer then save yourself the cash and do the adjustment your self. If you read the vizard book it explains the process.

In simple terms you can adjust the suspension to the height you want without high/lows and save the money. The only drawback is you need a bit of time to do it with the car jacked up, hence not for quick changes at the race track but for the road its perfect

without hi-lo's don't you need to machine the trumpet? and doesn't that end up making it no cheaper than hi-lo's if you can't do the machining yourself?

Try a file to get the height you want. Or the service manual indicates to lift it fit a metal ring similar to a washer

In broad terms 1.0mm off the front trumpet will lower it 3mm, and 1.0mm off the rear trumpet will lower it 5mm.. approximately..!

Caution: they need to be machined off square and accurate (lathe preferred) otherwise if cut crooked, you put funny stresses on the trumpet, it can crack 'em.. :?

If the trumpet is cone shaped, how do u hold it in a metal lathe chuck securely? We've got some nice lathes at school i can use to turn them down.

Grab the big end in the chuck and put a fixed steady on the small end. :wink:

How much are new trumpets... like what if i screw it up?

Also, can it be angle grinded down very carefully>

You don't really need a lathe..
Knock out the knuckle ball, cut end off trumpet with a hacksaw, as square as possible, file it so it looks square, put knuckle ball back in and check no gap- take out and file a little more if there is. It doesn't need to be perfect, if it touches 3/4 of the way round that'll do.
If you take too much off put a spacer back in.

Plenty of s/h trumpets are about if you do stuff it up.. :wink:
