ausmini :: View topic - Sun visor colour

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me what colour my 1968 mini deluxe sun visor should be. I am arranging a white head lining but the old sun visor I have seems to be a sort of greyish colour. I was wondering if it was a UK made item and thats why it may appear a little different?

Or maybe it is just so aged it now looks grey

Yes the grey is correct
I usually clean mine with bleach

I second that. They should have a grey undertone. Not overly obvious but when put against the warm white rooflining it is noticeable.

I think the foam in mine Is knackered ... Is the Newton an option ?

I'm pretty sure in 68 they were still using imported UK ones because thats the pattern they used for the headlining also. They probably were a lighter colour when new but they do seem to yellow with age.

maybe try soapy water and a soft brush and see what colour yours really are. Having said that, I'm more used to them going yellow rather than grey also.

Your Roof lining should be white with a barky kind of grain.. The Newton Commercial visors are fairly close

Thanks guys, I am planning to order from Newton Commercial but noticed they only have grey and cream available and wondered if we only ever got grey or cream or if Australia made with version to go with our local headlining. Some pics of mine, It could have started as white but it seems to have a grey tone to it that doesn't show up very well in the photos.

A previous owner may have been a smoker.

Try Cleaning Them With Nappysan The two metal ends will come out and You can have them re Chromed

Thanks for the help all! I will try cleaning, the whole thing seems pretty loose and spongy I think it might be had it and ordering a reproduction one might be on the cards, but it looks like grey is the one I will need to match Australian white head lining. Cheers

I think we had the same crackle finish sun visors here as they had in the uk. Even though our head lining is different and doesn't match they must have just decided to keep importing the visors from the uk.
