But how long is a piece of string? What condition, manual/auto, aircon, rego, rust? so 11 could be heaps or very cheap.

How long's a piece of string "twice the distance from the Centre to one end"

13K up here but I would not like to work on one. Even changing the oil filter is 3 Hours

 I like that answer....hehehehe

I saw a Late 80's Rover Mini sell on ebay for $4600 ish in Syd recently. The guy told me he would be happy with $4000 before it went to ebay. I think that piece of string was pretty long though.....

that one on eBay wasnt able to be engineered for registration. Apparently there was no park for the auto transmission and so no one would let him register it. $4600 was a pretty good price if you wanted to strip most of it, but as it stood, it was a $4600 nightmare.

There was a post up previously talking about the pros and cons of importing a mini. A few importers have '88-89 Mini's, and they can be had for pretty cheap. They're going for anywhere between 150,000-250,000yen at the moment and for the later stuff it's around double that. Divide those numbers by 78 should be in AUD.

250 000 / 78 = 3200
double that we're lookin at 6400!!!!....tats a dream come thru!...can any1 hook me up with dealers or traders???....now because of the new rule that the gov installed - im startin to look for models tat are 15 years old....which are the 89-90s models! 1 litre

are there major differences between the 1.3 n the 1 litre models?....

i'll appreciate numbers of contacts of traders esp if they are in victoria!

The early models are not fuel injected. They are carburettor models. I don't see why you would bother importing a 998 carburettor model when you can buy much the same here.

The 94'ish models are 1.3i (fuel injected). They run much smoother and can be very reliable. Having said that I guess there are always the bad ones. I am going to Qld. on Thursday and there is a guy up there that used to have some. I will ask around for you.

Most minis that come from UK and are 80's models would be pretty rusty. Japanese models shouldn't be too bad for rust.

Only person who I know of in Melbourne that may have anything that you are interested in would be Northern Mini Parts. You could always buy a fuel injected engine and find a shell?

Good luck.

1.3's should travel at least 100kms on the freeway. No worries. Very hard to stop yourself speeding.

Just find out if it is a Cooper or Mayfair or some other model other than a Cooper.

Cooper's have a different spec engine. That's why they should be dearer than say a Mayfair.

Most Coopers out of Japan have (or should have) opening rear side windows. I know there are also some other differences just can't think of them at the moment.

When I visited Sydney last there was a lot of imported minis for sale at a show I went to, however, some had Cooper decals on and were being sold as Coopers when if you looked closely you could see where the other real decals had been on the paint work.

Very shifty some of the importers.

Beware.
