Does anyone know how to date the following glass id's.

Armourglass Safety Glass (front windups and quarters)

Perma Safety Glass (rear quarters)

N & M TS Safety Glass (rear screen)

They are the types fitted to the windows of my late 68 Mini.

Only the Armourglass seems to have the dots.

Are any original??

Cheers

I'm a little fuzzy on the details right now.....When you look at the glass there will be a tiny dot or asterisk above the brand name (I think?) Count the number of letters to the letter the dot is above. If its above the the 3rd letter
the year the glass was made is 1963, 4th letter and it's 1964. But you have to know the decade the car was made.
It's a good way to determine the year of the car because most of the glass never gets changed....except the windscreen of course.

Yes, it works somthing like that but the code can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. It an also indicate month or week of the year apparently.

I found this http://www.minis.com.au/page21/page21.html
but it only covers Indestructo and Triplex.

Cheers

Old thread, but does anyone know how to date "Perma Safety Glass"(The Perma Glass with the AS inside the triangle), and in particular when mini production changed from Armourglass to Perma Glass?

Does anyone know when BMC changed from Armour Glass to Perma Glass and was this the glass became thinner?

John Sneddon's book states that door glass thickness was reduced at mini K number 1613 in April 1969 but does not mention brand name change. My mini K is number 3226 (c. July '69) and has Perma glass rear quarter windows and Armourglass door and front quarter lights.

My April '70 Mini K (No. 6999) has Armourglass door (main and quarter) and rear windscreen, and Perma Glass rear quarters.

The lack of consistency could be a right pane.....
