Also used on MiniMatics and some Mokes.
WTF are these things so expensive?
My mate and I want 4 pair of them, and the only place in Oz that seems to sell them now wants $22 for each 1/2 collet...

So I think there may be a much cheaper DrMini ST version coming soon, let me know if you need any.

What do they do? :?

They go (2 per side) inside the Hardy Spicer drive flanges on the diff output shafts. They are split so you can get them into the groove machined in the flange.
A bolt goes through them into the end of the shaft, effectively they locate the drive flange on the shaft. A rubber seal goes against them (behind the bolt) to seal oil in.

The old original ones I have don't appear to be hardened... so I was going to make them out of 1030 or 1040 steel.

Kev,
I don'tr think they should be too hard as they could be inclined to shatter and that could cause a problem or two. The originals appear to be made out of regular high grade steel and don't seem to suffer any problems.

Al

Nah, not worth the effort. Based on Mini adverts I've seen on eBay (and elsewhere) you just include the term cooper s in the product description regardless of what the part is or what's stamped on it (e.g. Cooper S front brake shoes, Cooper S magic wand gearbox, Cooper S rubber front floor mat, etc. etc.).

What is the correct way to insert these collets, with the chamfer in or out?
