while we're here... can anyone explain the aluminium radiator and insulating it so the electrolysis doesn't kill something? i remember hearing something about having to rubber mount them so the electrolytic reactions don't happen. my chemistry was all left in year 12, that was a while ago now!

looks like they do cheap silicone hoses as well, and you can order them in black, silicone in black, now we talking, the blue bling is not my thing!

There was only one listed for Australia - I bought one of 10 listed for the UK.
Arrived today. Surprisingly good quality, two VERY large cores.
Has bosses welded to take the original shroud, but you'd have to use metric bolts instead of the original screws. Even has a nice sized drain plug - even that is aluminium.

Stray currents is a big killer, and I am lead to believe that mixing different types of inhibitor can also cause problems. Poor ground connections on thermo fans is the easiest way of creating stray currents. The fans get pretty grotty in use as they are in the full flow of wind and water and can leak current through the metal frame and onto the radiator. The current can then find its way back to the chassis via the water passages. This electrolytically erodes the aluminium particualarly where water velocity is highest around pipe bends.

I put a new radiator in my VN commode years ago and I had to fill it with inhibitor after fitting and stick a voltmeter into the inhibitor to earth, if the reading was to high you had to adjust the amount of inhibitor, failure to do this would void the warranty

ARE reckon its to do with the two makeups of coolant/inhibitor that are available. One reacts with the other to create a Seebeck effect (like a thermocouple). They also react to form a green snot sludge which then calcifies on the radiator and block core. I'm not sure if the information is current anymore (oil use to do this once upon a time), but I just stick to one brand of coolant to keep it easy.
Its harder to forget if you use Castrol everytime...
