it might be a little late now as ive already installed carpet,

but when i felt inside the box section a few months ago, it was kind of scaly and im guessing it is pretty bad rust.
i sucked through a straw and blew rust converter through the hole on the sides hoping to cover some of the rust.

if the car has carpets, lives in the garage, barely gets wet... will i have to attend to it?

this section on the floor of a mini is were it gets its strength from....mine was realy bad when i bourght my car but my floors were crapy also so i just replaced both floors front and rear plus i had replaced this box section as well if its too far gone i would get it looked at buy a panel beater maybe as remember your seats are bolted to this too.
no rust is good....and the worst kind is the kind ya cant see.....
it takes just 30min to take the carpet out again anyway....but then again if you can tap the metal with a small hammer and it dosent go threw it may be strong enough...it it does then it may be better to replace it with new metal....

When they rust thru, it's usually at the bottom, and if real bad the floor goes too...

Pity they didn't make them thicker..
