That my dear friends is my new question...

I have read in one of the other posts about how a Mini was stolen, on sold, on sold, etc and then 2 years later registered, at which time it was realised that it was stolen.

I have contacted REVS and the RTA (I am in NSW) and both of them have not been able to give me a definite answer as to whether this car is stolen or not. The guy that sold it to me had no paperwork at all, and although I did the REVS check, without VIN numbers on the car I am not too confident about their answer... They all seem so vague and just tell me "it should be OK"...

Does anyone know of anyone that has had a 1969 Mini Panel Van that was either grey or red (the plate says it was originally grey, however the last colour on was red and its now purple..). There are no distinguishing features other than that it seems to have had a slight impact on the front left and has an arial but no radio... :)

Does anyone know where else I can turn or what else I should do..?? I dont want to pull this thing apart and find out its someone else's baby...

THANKS..!!! :P

VIN plates came out late `69/early `70.
Up to `68 there was a chassis plate on the firewall.
For a 1969, the chassis # may be stamped into the firewall behind the master cylinders in BIG numbers, but does not include the body type prefix. There is also a number (with prefix) on the top of the radiator shroud.

If this is defaced (common...) and you have no other numbers, I wouldn't spend a buck on it.

It really is pathetic that there's no central register for stolen etc vehicles that the public can check.
REVS is there mainly to tell if the car is encumbered- ie. has $$$ owing on it. They can also tell you if it has been reported stolen, IF it is registered. I found they can't help you if car has no rego number. :x
