This may be a dumb question, but can anyone tell me which is the rod change and which is the remote change gearshift? Thanx in advance! |

The rod change is the later syle - just looks like 2 rods going into the gearshift. The remote has the whole lot encased in an alloy housing !! |

And, the remote box's alloy housing has another engine mount on the back of it (in the tunnel), so the motor doesn't need `top' steadies and `bottom' steadies and `ultimate' steadies to stop it trying to climb out of the car ... Of course technically both these mechanisms are `remote' shifts, unlike the original 850's `magic wand' which went direct into the box...

Thanx guys! From what you have said the original box in my cooper S is the remote type. Most of my confusion was in the magic wand type versus the remote type, I have never seen a rod type. Thanx for clearing that up Dr. |
