This may be a dumb question, but can anyone tell me which is the rod change and which is the remote change gearshift?

Thanx in advance!

The rod change is the later syle - just looks like 2 rods going into the gearshift.
The remote has the whole lot encased in an alloy housing !!

And, the remote box's alloy housing has another engine mount on the back of it (in the tunnel), so the motor doesn't need `top' steadies and `bottom' steadies and `ultimate' steadies to stop it trying to climb out of the car ...

Of course technically both these mechanisms are `remote' shifts, unlike the original 850's `magic wand' which went direct into the box...

Thanx guys! From what you have said the original box in my cooper S is the remote type. Most of my confusion was in the magic wand type versus the remote type, I have never seen a rod type. Thanx for clearing that up Dr.
