Post subject:  Coolant in the Fuel Tank?
I took the fuel tank out of the car today, and while emptying it found the fuel begin to turn green.......towards the end what came out looked like unmistakably like coolant :shock:

Im guessing somethings cracked somewhere there........

suggestions?

Maybe you got a fill up with fuel containing the dreaded Ethanol and it didn't mix...??

Or a tank of fuel containing water (it does happen..)

Can't see how coolant could get in there..?????!!

Just tip it, flush it, forget it... :lol:

the older the car the more nasties you find in fuel tanks.... Some of the tanks I have had to repair have had so much crud in them I was amazed the car ran!

I agree with the Doc, put it down to one of life's mysteries....

lol..well i coudlnt understand it either....i mean minis dont have a return fuel line do they?

It was DEFINATELY coolant.......ahh well :wink:

Minis DO have a filter (gauze) on the fuel pipe in the tank- only good for stopping rocks getthing through...!

I don't have a separate filter on my elec pump inlet, as I'm scared it will starve under load with the big 45 Dellorto carb.

Best place for a filter IMO is just before the carb, where you can see what's in it. Mine's a Purolator glass one- I just slip a new gauze into it every 2 years or so. :wink:

I think that's what I'm running. Fine for stock motors in my opinion - definately better than the $2 jobs from Super Cheap! One of those glass ones is better though - well it looks better at any rate!

Ryco filter OK for the road with 1 carb. Purolator glass one flows better.. 8)

hehehehe, much better than having to climb in the damn tank to scrape all the microbioligical contamination out. Yup, tip it out, chuck another couple litres of fuel in, shake the hell out of it, and dump it. Refill and be happy.

Well I run a VS V8 commodore one JUST Before the Big-Ass Holley Blue Fuel pump...
You pay that much for a pump, you dont want it full of crud !

Its a Big metal canister, and it certainly flows enough for a 215Kw Commodore, so it should be ok for my little 998 !

Would that be the big one that sits near the in the drive tunnel near the diff? Those bastards are EXPENSIVE.
