Guys,

I was wondering if anyone can help me...?

I have found this wicked little mini (it will be my first) and I wanted to make sure that I know what I am getting...!!! I have the following details:

Serial no - 5926
engine no - 9ye/u/H-2813S
type - YJEAV2R

Its a little round nose panel van but the guy selling it has no idea about the details what so ever. How do I know what engine this has or is meant to have..? I think that its a 68 or 69. Which of these details do I use for a REVS check..?

Any help you can give me is MUCH appreciated..!!

Also there are a few bits and pieces missing like the window washers, radiator cap and air filter. Does anyone have any of these parts lying around that they dont want any more..?? :wink:

Could the body type code be YJBAV2 (note 'B' not '3')? If so, it is Morris Mini van, Aus model. with 998cc motor code 9YE/U/H. Looks like original motor with van!

THanks for the help so far..!!! :D I think that I have 10000 pages of info to wade through now... :shock: The final question I have is ... What year is this thing..? Just to be sure that I am researching the right parts set up... I havent got the rego papers yet to check, but I think that its a 69 (which is gonna be hard telling my mum..!) :oops:

I'm unsure when they first started doing this, but all Mini's I own have the month and year of manufacturer stamped the plate. Though I have nothing pre Jan 1970.

mine has it stamped 66/8 in my morris mini panel van, so im pretty sure that one would have it unless it's dodgy :?

just look under the bonnet on the driver's side where the frame of the car molds for the headlight at the front. if that makes sense :)

The windscreen wiper motor isnt the best place to look at a manafacture date....
If you didnt realise mini13k that is another LUCUS part...... How many people have there origional wiper motor on there car... I changed mine twice... FU-K lucus....

Only the last of MK2s had the proper ADR plate with the date on it. Up to around 1968 the plate on the firewall showed chassis no, engine no, and colour, but no date..

Many 1969 cars had SFA, except the number stamped into the radiator shroud.

So if it's a `69er, and a van, only the wiper motor has a date. (but cars had a date on the boot lock too).

I have been told the MiniCar Club of NSW have a register of what was made when, based on engine number. Sorry I don't have the list, and I dunno if it covers vans..

I will ask the question and report back.. :)

<EDIT> The fact you obviously have a chassis plate on the firewall (to get the number and type) means it's probably 68 or earlier, IMO..

<EDIT 2> which side do the wipers park, and are the wiper shaft shrouds recessed into the panel?

Hey clubmn... I got 3 Minis- `64, `70, `78... guess what, they ALL still run original wiper motors.. that work! :lol:

Mine is an original motor too (1970) and it worked fine up until a week ago.

Anyway if its a 68 car the motor would be 36 years old - its 36 years of service and exposure to heat, dust, vibration etc by a mechanical device with multiple moving parts with minimal servicing and lubrication (if any at all). Thats pretty impressive people, unless you live in lala land. And if 36 years of service doesnt satisfy you that means you automaticaly disqualify from owning any modern car where stuff starts breaking much sooner (and there's much more stuff to break).

OK here's the reply from my friend Graham in Aust (on MS board)...

Info I have shows YJBAV2R as Morris Mini Van (YJEAV2R I would suggest E should be a B) this could have been an Early 998 Mini van, possibly flat roof? Sliding windows? Changeover to winders was probably 65 as per deluxe? I suspect that all sliders were 850’s, and probably 998 and winders came in together, not sure about roof though? Does it still have sides, or windows fitted?



Anyway, 9YEUH is correct motor code, number would obviously depend on age, I would guess (not in my list) late 67 early 68? With winding windows, what date is on wiper motor? / switches etc. What style trim and colours? There were some commercial grade trims out around then, different to all other Mini’s, I have a blue 66 Van with blue commercial trim, not got the numbers to hand at present, but here’s a pic! If this new guy does not want any of the original trim, I might trade him for later stuff?

Mine has the original wiper motor too. But it only gets turned on once a year for the rego check. I cut too much rust out of the thing when I restored it to drive it in the rain.
