Hey all, just a quick one...
Thermostat, how important is it? Are there risks if its not in? What is the best type to use and are they readily avaliable (supercraps etc)?

If the thermostat isn't in and you don't use a blanking sleeve then the water is likely to go too fast to have time to cool in the radiator . Also the motor will be slower to warm up without a thermostat . They are available pretty much anywhere (supercrap etc) , not sure on best temp to get but I normally drill two 1/4" holes into the flat bit of them to allow water to circulate better than just the bypass hose while the thermostat is closed .

there are 3 different temp ones- 74C, 82C, 88C. I use the 82. A 74 is too cold for winter use and I reckon the 88 is too hot for Oz.
Cheaper to buy em from Karcraft etc lately, rather than Superdear...

Thanks for the replies, are they a specific size for the mini or is it a generic item?

It's a common size, eg a Chevy 350 smallblock takes the same one...
