Hi, can anyone give an indicative cost to supercharge a Mini? Don't really know where to start, or whether the additional performance is justified, given the cost. Currently have a clubbie, running a 1340 with twin SU's and a wade cam. Would like to go harder (within the legal speed limit, of course!).

I think if you want to charge an engine you're better off with an engine not bored out as much as yours. Can be done but you're better off with some wall thickness in there. 
A supercharged engine should probably all go with a recod block and box, so cost could be quite a lot. Far more than engine conversion if speed is your main priority.

im running a 1360cc s/c you should select a cam suitable for boosted applications, i dont know if the one you have is suitable? also you should have a suitable compression ratio apart from that, i think the kit is about $850, getting a s/c should be about $250-350 and factor in some dyno time at a guess $400-500 plus some other little things, boost guage etc etc factor in another couple hundred.. also slinkey should be able to tell you how much his has cost, he's running the same kit i'm installing atmo. |

I am collecting parts for a supercharger set up on my 998. I don't want to go wild - just a bit more go. So far: Carb metro turbo - for blow through $100 Kit for the carb - $75 Inter cooler and blow off valve - $45 Supercharger $250 All second hand parts and un tested - so I may be in for a rude shock when I go to set this beast up - time will tell I will put a kit through the carb and I am going to set up the mounts etc myself. - I will look for a boost gauge next. |

Hi Alfie. Just a thought: Whatever your budget is- Double it! Then u may be closer to the actual cost. As with any performance build, extra things u haven't budgeted for come up. Plus things u want to do extra, e.g. for more power or reliability, will usually pop up along the way... By the time mine is finished, it would have eaten up around $4000. This included a new exhaust and a few other bits and pieces I deemed a necessary upgrade, along with a few forced upgrades like new cam and double valve springs. I'm happy with the finished product. And on the point of do u need the extra power... Hell yeah! Sure i could have spent the cash on a 1275 but where's the fun in that. 
As for the engine conversion side- I budgeted about $10000 so this setup suited my financial situation a lot better. Hope it goes well, whatever u chose. |

Sox61, your motor is pretty worked, so that makes up for the lack of cc's!
Mine is pretty stock. But did make 74hp atws @ 4900 rpm. Which if you go to the thread about the results of Sydneys dyno day. That's fairly impressive. Cost wise, not cheap. I've spent 2 grand supercharging it. And many hours of work, but the cost is justified, albeit, I had already bought many extra, like 2 core 'hi-flow' radiator, oil cooler, thermo fan, pulsar dizzy, and probably much more stuff that I can't think of. I think it was worth it, it's a hot rod now. 50% more power than last time. When I threw my motor together, and got it setup good enoug it made 50atws, not approx, 75hp, and probably more now, as it runs tons better and revs out properly to 6500+ rpm. Spaceboy, you should get mid 80s hp from my guess, due to his cam most of all. Dunno what his head is like, but we'll see won't we!

Folks, thanks for the feedback, it's certainly food for thought. I have to make other decisions on the body as well, and am trying to weigh up whether to re-shell (current rust issues) as a total project and build a real beast, or play with what I've got for the time being, and just add small mods.
