Post subject:  S gear ratios

I've got the 4-synchro Mk2 S box out here, and I'm baffled as to why i can't see the part number where it should be.

The first motion shaft has the correct number of teeth for a MK2 S box, but can anyone else tell me the number of teeth i should be able to count elsewhere to work out if the rest of the ratios are standard S or something different?

All the other gears in the S box have the same number of teeth as those in a Mini K or Oz rodchange Clubby box.
If you have an 18T 1st motion shaft, you MUST have an S cluster gear in there. The standard one is around .050" bigger diameter on its big gear (although same tooth count) than an S one- it will NOT mesh with your 18T 1st motion shaft.
I'd say they forgot to stamp it. :wink:

Don't these sometimes have ME stamped on them rather than a part number? :?

Thanks Doc.

There's absolutely nothing to see in the way of stamping, so it may just be that they forgot. It's interesting in that the machined area in between the gears is also machined very roughly (more so than usual). Perhaps it may be aftermarket as well (but from the 80's).

I have seen laygears on early 80's import box's with no numbers stamped.

The ayshaft with no numbers on them are close ratio boxes but still to confrim count the teeth.
most of the GT boxes oin the country coume out with the Non stamped layshaft (they must have fired the stamping guy to save money) the others are stmaped ME.
