Do roofs rust much in aus? or is it just us kiwi's that have to put up with rusty roof gutters on nearly every car?

Have a photo:

Not that often unless they're neglected and left with leaf litter in the gap.

Well, if it's common between Kiwi Mini's, i'd say it's from climate conditions and the combination of humidity and condensation and all that crap, more so than we get here in Aus.

Gutter rust is pretty rare in Aus. Our cars were made from different steel and had a factory anti rust treatment up till 74.
You are more likely to find gutter rust in a 77 than a 67.

My 68 Cooper S has one small hole in the gutter from when it had a roofrack.

Do your rear subframes rust? Ours don't!

Roof rust was common in vinyl roofed cars though. Particularly those near the coast (within 50 km ) and was not limited to mini s - I would avoid a vinyl roof car like the plague now.

I've had to MIG repair RH front gutter corners on 2 of our cars, I think it's due to the tiny drain holes blocking easy with gumnuts and leaf litter when cars parked facing downhill....
1 was a 9/78, the other a 3/70. This `78 one never had any front drain holes from factory, I had to drill them.

did they seam seal the roof panel from factory? nope, if they did you'd see the slop mark from the fat brush they used (like the rest of the car eg. internal seams and floor pan)
when the paint starts to decay and become porus its only a matter of time that the seams of the panels will start to rust.
if you guys have to muck around with the roof heaps in NZ make sure you seam seal it and then spray the roof with 2pk or something else thats really hard wearing
my 2c.
i've never seen a rusty rear subframe.
