Post subject: | Rear wheel brake cylinder |
Just purchased replacement wheel cylinders and notice that next to the bleed nipple is a hole with what appears to be some sort of split sleeve sticking out a few mm. The old cylinders have the hole but are empty. The split sleeve (or whatever it is) stops the cylinder from sitting flush. Do I remove it? If not how do I get the cylinder to sit flush so the retaining clip will go in. I've done a search on the forums but found zip on this problem. Any advice? TIA Dave |

What does it locate into? There is no corresponding hole in the brake backing plate? |

Nope. Hole for the bleed nipple and one for the brake line connection. That's it. The car is a 1962 850 if that makes any difference. |

Make a hole with a drill - The backing plate is only pressed sheet metal. It stops the cylinder moving around inside the brake drum. |
