for 2 weeks my car has been a real pain to start, at first i thought it was the cold weather, when it wont start it the mornings and such, and i agree that this is not helping, but its not the only issue. even when its normal morning or night temperature and i havnt driven it since the previous day it doesnt wanna start.

i've only just started to use the choke in the last week (reco'd engine with 17,000 k's on it and hasnt needed it till now), which helps sometimes, battery is fine and it turns over great but mainly it just doesnt like firing up. i can push it and clutch start it, and also when the nrma guy sprayed that starting stuff on the carby it got going after little bit.

when its been driven within the last few hours, in the day time, it starts fine.

what can i do to fix it? im sick of getting my gf's mum to help me push it down the street.

Have the basics been coverd like a tune up spark plugs/points if fitted/air filter/fuel filter/ignition timing would pay to do this first :D

Was having similar issue a while ago. Turned out was the starter. It would drain the battery right down then would take a good run to charge system back up. If I went to start her agin next day exact same thing, drain right down and whole process began again.

If you'd tried donig the basic tuning stuff and still not working I'd take it to your trusted mini specilaist and see what they say.

suggestion:
Check your battery condition and the volts its providing down the line to the starter and dizzy.

Less than excellent battery condiiton can do all sorts of odd things you wouldnt associate with a dying battery.

Points Gap.... as it closes up( or becomes burnt) your timing retards, makes it a lot harder to start cold... could be worth a look, simple to rule it out, just run a points file thru em to clean them up, check the gap, and try it again.
