Yesterday, whilst removing the vast amounts of tar the previous owners had put on the boot floor i came across three small plates riveted to the floor.......upon removal and poking the floor with the screwdriver a little i soon had my hand go through the floor and grasp at thin air..... hence i need a new boot floor......karcraft sells new boot floor panels for $378. ANyone knows who sells them cheaper, or perhaps ill just weld in a new patch

I'm sure i'm gonna end up having a zillion "BODGY" comments thrown at me, but I've always found that washing machines are great sources of steel for body repairs. |

I have to agree with ya there, the steel used in most machines is a great for floor repairs! A Dollar Saved is a Dollar towards something else for the car! |

My dad has a mate who build the whole rear section of an Austin 7 "Chummy" out of a washing machine, it was the perfect size! I'm pretty sure ya can get the boot floors alot cheaper than that! It's less than $100 for a side of the front floor, right? So must be the same sorta price for the boot floor. |

Mini T- I think that Karcraft price is the boot floot/seat back & base.. not just a boot floor... If it's just the spare wheel well (the thinnest part on a Mini) that's holed, I braze 'em up if only pinholed, or weld a plate in if bad. But I've seen lots of bodges.. 
Phil, nothing wrong with using washing machines. Water heaters are OK too but you have to bash 'em flat, first!

a washing machine.......who would of thought!
the holes appear quite large, so a patch is definately going to be needed

Lots of washing machine cabinets (and older water heaters) were painted steel- it's cheaper than Colorbond! BTW, colorbond's OK for spare wheel wells (if not too thin)- just sand the edges for 1/2" with a flap wheel before you weld it. It's less likely to rust later except where welded, as it's painted over zincalume or galvabond base.

yup, thats the great thing about washing machines. A lot of casings have a very hard enamel coating which was really good, but same thing, grind the edges off where ya weld first. and if you want to paint it, take it all back to bare metal. |
