ERA Turbocharged minis had them facing backwards as apparently the issue isn't getting the air into the bonnet, but getting the now hotter air out of the engine bay. Though scoops seem to be more about aesthetics than function, that may have been their idea of cool. |

Flutes for the old school look. I saw a clubby the other day with an Evo 7 scoop setup. Interesting. ![]() |

Bonnet scoops are a good way to remove excess oil from the engine bay and spreading it on the windscreen. The front of the car is blunt (Clubbies are even blunter) a lot of air is forced into the grill and this air finds its own way out. A lot goes out through the radiator and a lot passes under the car. If you open a hole in the bonnet air will not be forced into the engine bay but it will let air out. Because of the shape of the car the top of the bonnet (except for the front bit) will be in a low pressure area. |

A very modest arrow shaped scoop with a separator in the middle looks mad on clubbies, I can't remember where I saw that. On a roundie an Austin or Shelby style scoop would look good, but I think you have to keep it real modest and classy to pull it off. I bought a book a couple of weeks a go called "The metal fabricators hand book" which details making a scoop (and other various body mods) by hand from sheet metal, might be worth a read. |

Who said anything about rice? How is what you have done to your car not rice? If I put a bonnet scoop on a Mustang is that rice? If I put a flare kit on a Torana is that rice? If I put a turbo on a Mini is that rice? Is that different to putting a turbo on a big block Chev? What about a body kit on a Lancer EVO? Rice? Turbo on a Suzuki Swift? Rice? Suzuki Swift motor in a Mini? Gen 4 LS2 in a 36 ford coupe? What are you trying to say? If I hand made some flutes and put them in my guards, and it was done tastefully, would that be rice? or would it be a neat custom job? If you didn't like it, move on, go find something you do. I don't believe you can rice a mini. Not without putting in a lot of effort fitting kits, modernizing it with lights etc... you would have to have neons, modern turbo dohc motor, airbrushed paint... I think I could appreciate that... |
