Hi there, I found this air compressor in a shop here in Canberra and according to various topics this could do the job in painting a mini with minimal hassles. It costs $575 which is a bit but ADAC seems to have a good name. http://www.oztion.com.au/vshops/previewpic.aspx?shopid=1702&itemid=1166382&picnum=1#mypic I just can't justify renting an air compressor a few times for spraying as the rental costs will add up and I may as well have something to show for it. Does anyone have any experience with these compressors? Spray guns are another issue though. Many thanks in advance.[/url] |

And can a compressor brainiac tell me what the difference is between a belt drive 2.5HP compressor and a direct drive of the same HP? |

Belt drive is softer starting and will last longer.... IMHO. Direct drive really hamers the pump more so than the belt drive. I agree that purchasing an aircompressor is the best savings as rental can add up very quickly. I just bought my 55l compressor vertical twin for similar money $615 and it was money well spent. ![]() |

For a given HP rating, a belt drive compressor will move more air- it has a bigger (usually twin cylinder) pump running at lower rpm for improved volumetric efficiency. So, you get more air, and probably less heat. And a damn sight less noise. Also, the tank is usually bigger, so it lets you spray longer before pressure drops off. ![]() |
