Post subject:  Gearboxes and clutches

I've been told mini's are hard to get into first/reverse sometimes, I'm guessing they don't have any synchomesh for those gears?

I have alot of trouble getting it into reverse and first, but also when in first or reverse and I've put my foot on the clutch for a minute or two (say at lights) it starts to engage and it's difficult to get out of gear. I adjusted the clucth according to Gregory and it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Any help!

Sounds like clutch is dragging- you probably have a fluid leak or bad seals- either in the clutch master cylinder, or slave...

Take a look at the slave cylinder first. Out of the 3 Mini's I own, one I have had to reco the slave cylinder and the other has a siezed one!

It does look like the slave cylinder may be leaking. Is it hard to reco (or expensive?)

No, it's real easy, as long as the bore is not pitted.

Strip it and check- clean bore with some wet/dry paper- (or hone it if U got one)- usually it's just the rubber seal is old and worn out. Kit is cheap, so is a new cylinder!
