i'm told they dont really wear on minis. You can if you want, but i've never replaced em and havent had any issues, just clean and fresh grease.

he said that if they jam up the steering pulls and the car swerves rapidly, but then again he did cut the roof off his clubby

Is your mate talking about the inner CVs (the pot joint) or the outer CV?
The pot joint should last a long time as long as the rubber boot does not split and let the grease out. They do not have a hard life.
The outer CV gets a real work out and will start to go "Clack Clack Clack" when you do a U turn when they are worn out. If they are quiet they are OK as long as the rubber boot is not split.
You can clean them and repack them with fresh grease as long as you use the right grease. You must clean out all the old grease, so you need to pull them apart to do it properly.

Usually when the CVs click clack the grease is dried out.
Mine have done over 140,000 miles, are a bit loose but don't make a sound.
Last repacked 70,000 miles ago.

Use only Molygrease designed for CVs (eg Castrol LMM) or the grease that comes included in a CV kit.
As said wash the old stuff out- either take apart, or soak em in diesel, then wash out with degreaser.

I wonder about the included grease.. I wonder if it's better to replace the included grease use a name brand grease seeing that they usually go cheap when it comes to things like that

Thats all right then, probably a result of hitting his head under cars and sniffing leaking exhausts.
