Hey, I bought a thrust bearing for my mini not too long ago (about 2 months), it was one of the cheap ones as i was in a hurry to fix it, this one has now screwed up and now im wanting to replace it with the proper timken bearing. Just wanted to know where i can get one, the place i goto in perth doesnt carry them last time i needed one. Cheers |

Where are you at in Perth? I've gotta new spare in my garage. I'm tipping it wasn't because the bearing was cheap that it failed necessarily. It may have been damaged while it was being pushed on to the carrier. All it takes is to push on the outer race accidentally and you will take the life from the bearing. |

Before i get one of these bearings, is there anything else that causes the clutch to slip at high rpm. Whats happening is that its slipping out at about 4000rpm. |

Clutch may be worn out, or oil in getting past the seal and onto the friction plate. If it's not making noise when you push the clutch in, or the engine doesn't stall when you push the clutch in then the bearing is fine. Same as I paid for it, I got it for 40 bucks a little while back. Bring over your old carrier with the old bearing on it and I'll push it on for you. |

Usually, either the clutch plate is worn bad, or the flywheel/backplate have been machined in the past and the assembled height ignored. Diaphragm spring should be near flat when assembled. Do a trial assembly on the bench, and look under the diaphragm.... ![]() <edit> re that bearing, it's Timken- go see a bearing shop. ![]() |

Right oh, well there is always an amount of oil around the little timing plate on the clutch cover, would this be due to the oil leak? |

Probably. And if leak is bad, oil will drip off the split pin in bottom of clutch housing. |

So i will most likely need a new primary gear oil seal? Is that a tough job to replace? Anyone know of the cost of one of these suckers? Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated. |

if it is leaking a fair bit, then it will get flung all around the housing. having oil on that timing plate cover does not sound good. is there oil dripping out the hole with the split pin at the bottom of the clutch housing? thrust bearing should have no effect on clutch slip. if it is stuffed you will get quite the opposite, which is not being able to disengage the clutch. unfortunately if the oil seal is gone it means engine out disassemble and new gaskets and seals, and no doubt the friction plate as well. You may as well do the whole lot to stop all the leaks. be good for another 15 years then. You could check by taking the cover off with it in the car, you really need to see the condition of th friction plate behind the flywheel which means pulling it off. you would need to do that to do checks recommended by Drmini cheers michael |
