Hi guys and gals it's been a few weeks since I last touched my mini. I was then having clutch trouble but thanks to Floss and a new clutch kit my clutch is now operating as it should.

Now that I can drive it I've found it's not running smoothly, it kinda splutters when accelerating. I know it could be a number of things but what I need is a list of possible things I can check with the limited knowledge and tools I have. Please help, my enthusiasm towards this car is running low.

Thanks :)

It's more than likely timing.

If you are game enough to try it out yourself, mark where the dizzy is, then undo and move it a bit (you should hear the revs change a bit). Find where the revs seem sweeter/higher and then tighten. See if it's any better.

before you stuff around with timing and if it's just started to do it, go the points, dizzy cap, rotor, leads and plugs. If they all check out then fiddle with the timing.

When was the last time you adjusted the points?

carb is all nice and adjusted? oiled up?

as suggested check that your plugs and points and give them a going over with sandpaper, then check your timing with a gun

Poeee,
I think you were spot on about the timing, I advanced it just a couple of degrees and it's made a difference. Points, plugs, coil etc are new so I didn't think it would be those.
Can I advance it too far? Will I get pre-ignition (run-on) when I go to far?
