Post subject:  Any Canterbury, NZ members?

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing a car (non-Mini) that is located in the Canterbury area of NZ. I can arrange the shipping, just need someone to look at the car for me.

Can anyone from Ausmini help out?

Happy to compensate for time and travel. :)

Cheers,

October may be okay. The car has been sitting around for sale for months. It's got no engine, so that would scare off most buyers.

How far is Canterbury from Christchuch? An hour's drive or more?

It's frustrating me, as the seller never answers their mobile, and they haven't returned my voice mail messages. I'll probably get a massive phone bill now. :(

christchurch is in canterbury, so if you find out whereabouts in canterbury it is, we can find out how far away it is. (canterbury being a provence).
out of interest, whats the car?

Hi,

Oh, I thought Canterbury was outside of Chch.

The car is a 1974 Toyota Corona RT114 two door hardtop, less engine. I've been trying to find one for YEARS. If I have to ship one from NZ, so be it!

Major bummer!

I managed to contact the seller (finally) and he sent me some photos. The car is not the model I'm looking for.

The seller identified it from a book, not the chassis plate. :(

Back to searching again...

Looks nice, doesn't it? It has been on a dealer lot in Japan for about 2 years. The photos actually decieve quite a bit. It has bulk rust in both sills and all four guards. Even rusty examples of this car are expensive in Japan. At the current price it would cost me a whopping $8,000 AU shipped and cleared through customs. Then I would have to repair the rust, get it engineer certified (compulsory for imports made from 1969 in Vic) and register it. So realisically it would be a $11,000 car once on the road. Too rich for me.

Hence I'm checking NZ and the USA. :)

Cheers,
