Post subject:  rain jacket for distributer
just bought a mk1 cooper s , and advized by mechanic to cover distributer.

is there a off the shelf cover for the distributer to keep it from getting wet ?

if anybody knows where to obtain a nice looking one please let me know !

I use to use a washing up glove with the leads poking out the fingers...worked a treat for a long time..till I went electric

That rubber glove trick works a treat - little hole in the end of each finger for the plug leads to go through and kept tight with a "baby" cable tie plus it looks real bling.............'specially if you use a hot pink one!!!!

I find that a brand new cap with new rubber seal is better than a preventative jacket.

I have new Bosch cap for the pulsar dissy and have driven Lillee in torrential, sideways, 1ft deep, splashing all over the place rain, and had no problems at all (distribution wise anyway :lol: ) Good Better Bosch! :wink:

There was an Aust Factory "Water proof kit" avaliable back in the 60s & it was one of the very very best you could get

i have a few here & am having them copied as i believe that they are no longer avaliable

There was a smaller version also avaliable but was only made to cover the distributor, the big one is the ducks nuts

There was also a soft rubber type one for the early dizzys & was pretty useless as water would still get in there & actually stayed in there causing more problems than it was worth

I`m also not that much of a fan of the rubber glove trick as it also can cause condesation to form within it & therfor cause it`s own wetness problems, you really doo need air to be able to circulate around it all somewhat.

I don't have a factory cover but I have the factory fitting instructions for the factory cover! (Fitting Instructions, Ignition Shield Kits HYL4234 & HYL4235) Do you want a copy Matt?

I use a plastic ice cream bucket. :wink:
The main thing is that all the ignition parts are clean and in good condition. Dirt and oil will cause the rain to short the ignition.

According to a report in Miniworld ages ago the last of the Works Rover minis to do the Monte Carlo rally (back in late 90's I guess) had a pink washing up glove as described above.

If it's good enough for the works team, it's good enough for me :D
