Post subject: | steering rack removal ? |
Hey all Bought a recon steering rack yesterday and figured i would change mine after work today... Took all the rear sub frame bolts and the suspension tower bolts out, the steering rack bolts, steering collum and the engine steady's. Jacked her up, put some stands under the front of the sub frame and slowly let her down. Sat on the stands, rear of the subframe started to seperate from the body and then stoped.... it's only come apart about 10mm and wont go any further...? Have i missed something? do i need to undo the shocks? or should i employ BFH tactics? Any assistance would be helpfull |

I did loosen the front subframe bolts. I think that is what you mean. Thanks though. I have been back out and removed dampers, tie rod ball joint's and have mannaged to get the steering rack clamps off. But there still seems top be something stopping it just short of having enought room to get the rack out. hmm i might have to start thinking about alternate meens to get to work tomorow...... yes i admit perhaps a little tricky to try after work one day.... |

Have you disconnected the gear shift? the main cause of not enough clearence is the brake pipe from the 3 way block to the subframe streches out & stops the subframe from coming down any further. Hwever for the cost of a reco steering rack you bought a new one. Doogie |

Was looking just now and see that although the book says "remove suspension tower bolts". My bolts appear to come up through the tower and there are nuts on the top that i have removed.... I just went and looked at the others. The delux has bolts that you remove, But the van has nuts to. So i guess they have both... Should i some how knock those down to give clearance? Mabe nut's for dry and bolts for hydro |
