Putt Putt's motor fired today ....... Over the last few weeks thanks to Mokesta, Nav and Gazza the transplant happened (and to all the help I recieved through people in here - cheers Doc)and have just been awaiting some time to finish it off, got the time yesterday with my brother. However we could not get Putt Putt firing yesterday so I went to Supercrap this afternoon and got some magic spray juice and sprayed a bit in the back of the carb and it was enough to give the new donk a kick in the guts ...... and Now he Bangs. Starts first kick in the guts every time now......Just have a couple of questions tho. 1. When I first fired up the motor with the happy spray it back fired a bit, is that normal? 2. It back fired once or twice after a while ..... could this be timing? 3. I am getting a fair bit of smoke from the new manifold gasket .... is this normal? 4. The accelerator cable is too short to fit around the spring loaded mechanism on the HIF44 (was on a HS4 b4), the outer cable has a brass ferrule on it does this come off so I can lengthen the inner cable? 5. The Speedo cable died in the transplant (I need to get a new one of these) does it matter that the motor turns over with the inner cable detached from the lower end? Thanks for your help everyone ..... Btw the car owes me about an inch of skin already oh and a face full of petrol..... Cheers Gerard |

It's normal to get an alarming amount of smoke from the manifold as it heats up - there is always a fair bit of grease on to from your hands. 4. If you can shorten the outer and still have it seat properly at both ends that will do the trick. 5. No problem. Suggest that you leave the outer screwed in place to keep out the dirt. |

Thanks Jules - I had to weld the seats from the HS4 bracket to the top of the HIF44 bracket (welding is atrocious - but) it works a treat. Cheers Gerard |
