What comfortable seats fit in a mini, alternatively is there a way of making seats more comfortable.
As I get older I find I need more comfort.

Doubt it's ADR compliant though.

As I get older, I find I just need more seat!

Cobra brand and other similar seats are a bit of a tight fit and the high sides require yoga positions to get into and out of them.
I'm thinking of reupholstering a pair of tombstone type seats to replace the original low backed.

What regulations or ADRs apply to alternative seats and mounting designs? I have thought about seat replacements but have assumed it would cause less of an issue if the seats were based on the original seat frame and using the original attachment points.

Yep Mr Bean is a classic. Also see the christmas episode for how to load up a mini.

You may be on to something Bill, maybe it is just more seat. I also wonder if sitting position is a comcern. There are some cobras that dont have high sides but any cobra seat seems to have the price of a new car attached. I thing cobra and other seat makersdo fitting kits for the mini so should be legal.

Back in the late 70's/early 80's, I had recliner Recaros in my Mk2 S. They fitted well even with Bond half cage, you could still get to the handbrake. Only problem I can recall was tilting them forward with the mesh head rests. I'm putting Autotecnica low backs in my current car.

I have some SAAS seats fitted to the van. They are ADR compliant, but I had to have them engineered due to requiring new mounts to be fabricated, so be mindful of that if going for something that is not a direct bolt in fitment.

Thanks all. Some food for thought. For a start I may just replace the foam in the seats with some proper seating type foam. I just need to decide what is the best product for the job.

I purchased foam from Clark Rubber. They have a good range. Not cheap for a piece of foam but did a good job.

Sometimes you can be lucky in the offcuts bin at Clark Rubber, they are really cheap.

Repairing your old seats makes a huge difference, for mine I replaced the old elastic with new upholstery webbing & some new foam. I woud suggest to make the webbing as tight as you can

What specific foam did you use, Clarks seem to have heaps of different types.

I refurbished my front seats last year. I think I used a high density seat foam

See https://www.clarkrubber.com.au/products ... oam-29-200

Also these videos were very helpful

I used a bread knife (bought on FB marketplace) to shape the foam
