Ok all sorted. Another go at cleaning up the splines and there must have been some burrs or sharp edges somewhere cause it suddenly just slid on.

So I’ve had this strange thing happen and I can’t work out how it can be …and interested to know the possible explanation. I have original cooper s hardy spicer unis and drive shafts, but I need to replace my left drive shaft (cv end is damaged) so I ordered a new shaft. However the new shaft would not slide into my uni joints, either of them. Both the same. They go in about a third then jam tight. I’ve thoroughly cleaned, checked and lightly greased both (twice!) The supplier checked another shaft they had on the shelf with one of their brand new unis and it was a perfect sliding fit. So then I assumed I must be unlucky and I got a faulty shaft. However I tried the new shaft in a friends old set of Uni Joints and it fitted fine?? So the shaft must be ok?? Can someone please explain what has happened to my old Uni joints that they will not fit on the new shaft???? My Uni joints otherwise appear in good condition, the splines do not appear damaged on either the old drive shaft or the inside of the uni, they don’t even need new inners. FYI my old shafts and joints fitted my friends Uni joints and shafts and visa versa. Please explain???. Thanks in advance. |
