I do not want to piggy back onto the other thread, so having bitten the bullet I have the top drivers hinge off. First thing is the actual hinge looks bent down at the pivot point, that is the hinge is not aligned and when it opens it really gets out of line. The problem is there is a gap at the top front of the door that cannot be fixed by adjustment. The hinges felt worn when on the car but now one is off it actually is not really worn or loose but the bend worries me.
The other problem is the the pin is not coming out, I have knocked out many and various pins in my time but this one is not gonna move.

Might need to replace it with a new one. I recently bought 4 new hinges from Minispares - not cheap but sooo much cheaper than Aus distributers

Are they the alloy ones, I would be interested in how durable thay are compared to the original steel ones.

I spent 10 mins trying to drive out the pin and it did not move at all. I tried both ways just in case. The upside is that I refitted the hinge fine as nothing had moved. The hinge must definitely be bent as at full upward movement of both adjustment and the hinges play the door is still out by a good 15mm at the top front.

Originals were cast iron, not steel. They just break in a good prang.
I have a spare top RH one off my car which I have repinned and bushed, send me a PM if interested.

Note I am not doing these anymore, I am too old and retired.

I am lucky in having more than one mini (although SWMBO has different views on the situation). I have removed the top drivers hinge off another car and a number of things became clear.
Firstly I can now remove a hinge in less than 10 mins. ;-)
Secondly the hinge on the main car is most definitely bent down at the the tongue as I suspected.
Further more the hinge I have just taken off the second car is seriously worn. The holes in the fork part are so flogged out that a new pin literally falls straight through. It had a new pin in it already which is not worn at all. I am going to make an oversize pin to see how big it needs to be and I will ream a bush to suit if it is not too far gone. If I have to turn a new bush I will. This will preferably be put back on the second car.
I have a set of supposedly good used hinges coming and I have pins and bushes so I will pick the best option for the main car.

They appear to be an alloy. I havent fitted them yet (need to get them painted), but I would imagine they wouldnt be as robust as cast steel.

The early ones were brass. They wear pretty easily but they are also quite easy to repair, compared to cast iron.

Well for the first time in ages I have a properly fitting non drooping dr8vers door. Second hand hinges which I rebushed and pinned, painted and fitted. I had known for a.while that the original hinges were worn but what I didn't know until I removed was that the top hinge was bent down at the tongue.
The problem was that there was a gap at the top front between the door and the seal enough to let water etc in.
There are however 2 minor problems, the painted hinges look too dark and shiny and the door is if anything too far forward now. I will.see if it adjusts if it bothers me too much.

I've got an alloy set, but the front set screw of one stripped the thread when tightening, hardly any tension on it .
I re bushed and pinned my original ones.
I also have some original steel sets.
PM me if anyone is interested, and I'll check the condition.

I decided to adjust the door to try and get a better fit and ended up messing around with it for way too long. I have come to the conclusion that the door is a poor fit in the frame as I can get it OK and the door closes well but It is less than perfect. I suppose a 50 year old car may have alignment issues.
