Post subject:  Fitting GT Front Seat Covers

Need some expert advice desperately on this one , trying to fit seat covers to a frame and the base cover is really tight with the new foam. Underneath i have the flexolator rubber diaphragm although i think early 1971 GTs has springs. However i can’t see how that will make much difference with foam height overall when fitting the cover.

The cover cant seem to stretch back far enough, does this look about right that i should expect to see foam at thr back:

In addition to, are these the correct style straps being 3 x cotton straps?

From the other side, how were these straps tied down? Do they tie up over bar A or bar B?

Am i suppose to use a hogtie also for the thin strings/straps as well?

I bought the proper base foam but to me it seems still to thick and a bit long, its very fresh so prevents much adjustment of the base cover. Im starting to wonder if this vinyl shrinks over time. Maybe i gotta try this in the sun.

Take a look at CafeRacerLab's guide .. https://youtu.be/OyISLClxdkA?si=LXUnFinRvOOxVXiS

No expert but recently re-did my front seats in my 1969 Mini K. The seat base cover should be able to be pulled back under the seat back. I tied the straps from the seat cover to the frame you marked as B.

Thanks yes that Caferacerlab episode is very handy.

Rather than starting at the front of the base cover , i began at the back, tied it down , then worked the cover around the sides of the foam then finally the front edge, still needing to put clips on here. The back cover was rather easy.

The base cover appears very tight and the stitch seam is not perfectly on the edge of the cushion.

It looks pretty good overall, just one split seam needs repair so may remove and redo.
