Hi All. I’m in need of your wisdom again. I’m fitting a new wiring harness which has prompted an interesting question. Did the Australian Mk1 Minis have door activated/operated interior lights or was this via dash-switch only? The new harness appears to have a connection point for this but I don’t recall any door switches. This is on a 1966 Delux Model. I’ve also noticed that the interior light that I removed may have not been original. It was the rectangular version but it looks like this wasn’t introduced until much later. All advice gratefully welcomed. |

The deluxe had a Wingard Interior Lamp like this Attachment: Wingard Interior Lamp.jpg It was activated by earthing the bulb via a toggle switch or door switches. Attachment: Wingard interior lamp wiring.jpg The door switches were like this Attachment: Linread Door Switch 13H2182.jpg

I put Rover mini door switches in my Mini Matic, they're a better switch with copper contacts and an earthing screw. Pretty cheap if still available. https://minisport.com.au/products/mini- ... ew-in-type Edit Not so cheap now! But work well. |

Thank you both. Especially for the pictures. Would you happen to have a picture of where the door switch is located? I’m trying to work out where it connects into the loom. As a somewhat interesting aside, my original loom had three wires for the interior light whereas the new replacement loom on has two (no dedicate earth). I suspect the earth is gained from the manning bolt as it looks like it mounts against the copper strip inside the light. |

Last I checked, the correct ones aren't available so those are sold and they have the wrong hole spacing. |

The circuit is earthed at either the 2 door switches or the mounting screw in the lamp. Attachment: Deluxe interior lamp and door switch wiring diagram - Copy.jpg

If you are after an original looking one, minispares have a good copy. See pic - top - original, middle - 3D printed one that was available and bottom - available from minispares. |

IndigoBlueCooperS wrote: Looks like a pic of an Aussie Cooper S. Would the rear loom normally be wrapped in PVC tape like that? Yes the S had PVC style wrap. Earlier cars like the 850 had the cloth wrap. This factory document from Winabbey shows the distance between wraps where the wires exit the loom. Attachment: Rear Body Harness YDO6.jpg
