The driving flange to diff fixing is by bolt with a rubber seal etc and not a castellated nut. Is the torque setting the same for both methods? |

The driving flange held by the castellated nut was used on early minis fitted with the rubber universal joint. The manuals quote 70 lbs/ft for this nut. The Hardy-Spicer steel universal joint is held by the bolt and rubber seal arrangement and were fitted to automatic minis and to Cooper S after mid-1966. Torque settings for the bolt are quoted in the automatic transmission section as 40-45 lbs/ft. I guess the torque for the nut is higher as it is a larger diameter than the bolt on the Hardy-Spicer. |
