Post subject:  Extractors and exhaust recommendation

Looking for recommendation for extractors and exhaust system.

Engine is a 1275 with Hardy Spicer joints and remote gearbox. Carb is a HIF44. Guessing HP is less than 70.

Thinking of a 1.75" LCB system with a side mount RC40.. not sure on single or twin muffler just yet. My Mini is mostly driven around the 'burbs but hoping to take it on the Rylston Rally this year.

Looking an exhaust note that has a noticeably nice rumble (not too quiet) without it being outrageously obnoxious (not too loud).

Also thinking of getting it ceramic coated to reduce heat.

Hoping I can fit it myself and the downpipe doesnt require the service of an angle grinder

We have the 1.75" LCB, RC40 (single muffler) setup on two of our 1275 Minis. Sounds good without being excessively noisy in our opinion. Have done several long trips (2,000 to 3,000 kms) with one of them. At 110 kph it does get a bit much after a long day at the wheel but it is a small price to pay for the enjoyment of the other 51 weeks of the year.

I have the same system on an 1100 and it sounds a bit flat in comparison. Probably due to less CC's and a basic head compared to the Cooper S style 1275.

Thanks for your reply IndigoBlueCooperS :)

Did you need to trim the down pipe or extractors to make it fit?

I have a generic 1.75 system which was made up to fit with a locally available lcb. It originally had a hot dog muffler but when that rusted it was replaced with a standard muffler. Sounds good and runs well.

To fit the LCB to the RC40 system the down pipe needs to be cut to length, as the downpipe I had is for Cooper S style extractors, not the LCB. There may be a correct downpipe for the LCB - not sure. Also fitting the system was not a 5 minute job as the side exit muffler needs to be fitted just right so the system does not hit anything. Also I use the Minisport fitting kit to minimise stuffing around with brackets, etc.

Maniflow free flow with RC40.

Thanks for everyone's input... went with medium bore LCB, with a single RC40 muffler. Unfortunately only the AN180V pipe was available, so I'll need to cut to fit.

Be careful... a single box RC40 fails the ACT road worthy rego test (BTDT)... luckily I had the centre box as well so just had to fit it...

By the mid noughties the original Maniflow LCB and RC40 was getting very tatty so I bought a new Maniflow II LCB and RC40 system. I took it all to a local muffler shop and they cut and welded a Repco HotDog resonator into the old RC40, bent up some new pipe and made the whole system snug and tidy.

Unless you have the expertise... and tools .. I would recommend having your system professionally fitted. DIY is difficult and not nearly as tidy (BTT(ried) that). I don't know what an "AN180V" is but custom cut, bent and welded pipe is also probably also cheaper...

The "new" RC40 has now been sitting in the shed for over 20 years ..waiting for the old one to give up..

Cheers, Ian

I'm on full rego in NSW, so hopefully its not too noisy when all setup.

The AN180V is a pre-bent down pipe specific to the RC40. Apparently 165mm needs to be trimmed from the extractor end. I don't have a metal drop saw, so I'm planning to mark the end carefully then cut with an angle grinder.

Here's a link to the down pipe https://minisport.com.au/products/mini- ... 35b8&_ss=r

We put an rc40 side exhaust and Maniflow medium bore LCB on my son's clubby, just cut the pipe to fit. It's single box and not noisy, I'd say much the same as original Cooper S.
Engine is a 1300 with 40mm Dellorto and RE13 cam, 1.5 rockers.
